Hindustan Copper Limited is a Schedule-A Category-1 Miniratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the administrative control of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. It was founded on 9th November 1967 under the Companies Act 1956. The enterprise was established to take over all the plants, projects, schemes and studies concerning the exploration and exploitation of copper deposits from National Mineral Development Corporation Limited. HCL is the only company engaged in copper ore mining in India and holds all the operating mining leases for copper ore deposits in the country.

Overview of Products
Hindustan Copper Limited is India’s only vertically integrated copper producer. It covers the entire copper value chain, right from mining copper ore, beneficiation, smelting and refining to downstream processing into refined copper products. The company primarily focuses on producing and marketing high-quality copper and by-products.
HCL’s core products include copper cathodes, continuous cast copper rods and copper concentrate. Copper Cathodes are produced in the form of full cathodes and cut cathodes. They are highly pure and widely used as a raw material for further processing into rods and wires. Continuous Cast Copper Rods are downstream products that are available in various diameters. They are primarily used in electric cables, conductors and other applications. Copper Concentrate contains copper metal in concentrate form and is mainly sold to smelters.
By-products generated during smelting and refining processes are also sold by the company. The major by-products include copper sulphate, sulphuric acid, anode slime, reverts and nickel cathode.
