The Indian government gave ABG Shipyard Ltd permission to construct battleships and other vessels for the Indian Navy. After Pipavav Shipyard, it was the second corporate shipyard to be granted this license.

It received a contract in 2004 to construct pollution-control ships for the Indian Coast Guard. The Shipyard was chosen in 2009 to construct eleven high-speed water jet-powered interceptors for the Coast Guard.

A ₹9.7 billion (US$110 million) contract to construct two cadet training ships for the Indian Navy was given to ABG Shipyard Ltd. in June 2011. It received a 5 billion contract from Shipping Corporation of India in January 2012, increasing its order book to over ₹200 billion (US$2.4 billion). The business consented to declare bankruptcy in July 2017.

Scale of Operations

It operates shipbuilding facilities in Gujarat’s Dahej and Surat. It now runs the biggest ship maintenance facility in India, a ship repair unit in Goa, after acquiring Western India Shipyard Limited in October 2010. Europe, the Middle East, and South East Asia are among its global clientele. To date, they have constructed 165 vessels for both domestic and foreign clients.
